FAQ

  • How do I schedule a consultation?

All of our therapists offer a free 30-minute consultation to help you decide if working together feels right. To schedule a consultation, simply click the "Book an Appointment" button at the top right of the page. When completing the form, be sure to select "30-minute consultation" as your appointment type. During your consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about the therapist’s approach and discuss a fee structure that best suits your financial situation.

  • How can I make sure therapy is affordable for me?

At Gaining Ground, we believe finances should not stand in the way of receiving support. In your initial consultation, you’ll work with your therapist to establish a fee that fits your budget, using a sliding scale if needed. We’re here to ensure therapy remains accessible and sustainable for you.

  • How frequently will I be seeing my therapist for sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on each client’s needs and goals. Our therapists are open to meeting as frequently as you or your therapist feels is necessary.

  • Does Gaining Ground bill insurance?

Many of our providers are in-network with major insurance companies. If your therapist is not in-network, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. We’re also able to bill directly to your HSA or FSA account to help make payments easier.

  • What is the cancellation notice?

All appointments require 48 hours cancellation notice. Please let your therapist know ASAP if you are unable to attend your scheduled session. If your therapist does not receive proper notice for a cancellation or request to reschedule, you may be billed the full cost of the session.

  • What do I do if I am having a crisis or severe concerns?

Please contact your therapist if you feel they may be able to help. You can also contact the office’s general phone number or email if you cannot reach your therapist, and an on-call staff member will respond as soon as possible. If you are in immediate danger, you should consider going to your local emergency room, primary doctor’s office, or urgent care.

  • Does Gaining Ground offer remote/virtual sessions?

Our staff are located all across New York State, and are therefore able to accommodate virtual sessions. Some staff are able to provide in-person sessions at various locations.
